I know this isn’t as cute as a sweatered cat (thanks for raising the bar, Matt), but it’s almost as cute. Check this video taken from Matt Scott’s cell phone of our parade down Main St in Salem, NY as part of our residency at Salem Art Works.
When Salem Art Works told us that in return for room and board we’d have to play in the local 4th of July parade, we all envisioned playing our songs on a float. Or at least our instruments. Instead, we were asked to play two bars of obscure Hungarian folk music on DIY bassoons (water balloons latched onto used toilet paper rolls).
Not only did we play the hell out of those tp rolls, we did so for about 45 minutes as the parade snaked past the Stewart’s Ice Cream Shop, the Citgo “Gas-n-Go” and the ol’ court house. By the end of it, Matt Ferry’s hands were raw from beating on an empty water jug to keep time while the crowd’s jaws were raw from gawking agape at the art colony freaks on the tassled float that rode between the fire department and girl scout contributions to the parade.
Sometimes this art shit is really weird.
